Marianne Houtkamp
A renowned sculptress of the Netherlands, Marianne Houtkamp was born with an instinctive love for sculpture. As a small child, she was drawn to the touch of clay. Years of study, practice, and limitless fascination for the human figure have led Houtkamp to an impressive international oeuvre of bronze sculpture.
Her artwork is known for its expressive rebirth of personas and figures from a myriad of cultures in the medium of bronze. Houtkamp has found inspiration and subjects for her work across multiple continents. Amidst the people of Kenya, Mexico, and other nations, Houtkamp is drawn to the heartfelt souls of her models. One of the most important values in her work is the capture of rare universal moments through which she emphasizes qualities of bliss, delight, and hope in her sculpture.

Among Houtkamp’s stunning artistic accomplishments is a life size bronze sculpture in the Hague, as well as the privilege to have one of her sculptures decorating a Dutch stamp. This particular sculpture can now be found at a Red Cross hospital for terminally ill children in the Netherlands. One of Houtkamp’s most moving sculptures, a rendering of a refugee woman, can be found in the headquarters of the World Food Program in Rome, Italy. In 2004, the sculpture “Victory,” depicting a female athlete, was selected through an international call to artists to be displayed at the Summer Olympics in Athens.
