  Gerard  Ernens

Gerard Ernens was born in 1935 in Utrecht, a city in the middle of the Netherlands. He was born into a very artistic family. His brother Jan Ernens was also an artist and his other brothers were art dealers.

Gerard Ernens got his education from the well-known artist John Bévort, who died a few years ago.
Both used the what we call the knife-technique: first you give with oil paint the big lines of the composition, after that the artist starts the real painting (wet-on-wet).
It is almost a unique procédé, because most artists prefer to use the pencil over the palette knife.

Just 20 years old Gerard Ernens started his career as an artist. Landscapes, flowers and cityscenes were his famous themes in those days.
He tried on his colors at the interiors of that time.

His figurative, light impressionistic work is very popular around the world.
