Christian Snedeker: Art & Architecture of the Lowcountry Outskirts Thursday, March 01, 2012 - Saturday, March 31, 2012
Reception: Friday, March 2 from 5~8pm, in conjunction with the Gallery Row and French Quarter Art Walk
The month of March will bring a new grouping of local artist Christian Snedeker’s architectural gems to Ella Richardson Fine Art. Featuring the rustic lodges and fishing shacks that dot the Eastern coastline and surrounding rivers and creeks, his upcoming show offers an added element of beauty to the already captivating lowcountry landscapes Snedeker produces. The artist traveled to the outskirts of the Charleston area, spending whole afternoons and weekends exploring the pristine properties and countryside that surround the cities. Each of the dwellings he paints has a story to tell; the character that these tin-roofed and old wooden buildings exude make the viewer feel like there are years of history and well-kept secrets within their walls.
Snedeker studied painting, drawing, and photography at the Boston Museum School of Art and has been professionally painting for over twenty years. As one of the gallery’s top selling artists, he is also the recipient of numerous awards and honors, with exceptionally impressive recognition throughout the Charleston area. The artist was initially drawn to painting and realized its influential power after visiting the Andrew Wyeth Retrospective Exhibit at the Boston Museum in 1970. He continues to be inspired by the emotion and insight that can be conveyed through an artistic vision being put onto canvas.
Please join us as we showcase these exciting new works by Christian Snedeker. The artist’s reception and show opening will be in conjunction with the first French Quarter Art Walk of the year, on March 2 from 5pm until 8pm. Please contact the gallery for more information at 843.722.3660, or visit us Monday through Saturday, 10am – 5pm; 58 Broad Street, Charleston, SC 29401.

Morgan Coleman & Michael Coleman ~ Father-Son Exhibition Sunday, April 01, 2012 - Monday, April 30, 2012
Reception: Friday April 6th, a Gallery Row Art Walk
Morgan Coleman is our newest addition to the gallery’s selection of talented oil painters. Born and raised in Utah, he has immediately become one of our top selling artists and it is easy to understand why once you encounter his classic landscape works. Beyond detailed, the light and allure of these paintings are captivating. Growing up, Morgan watched his father paint, and eventually decided to study printmaking and etching at the University of Denver. The fine arts really started becoming Morgan’s focus in 1994, when he began a digital fine art printmaking company. In 2004 he honed his artistic talents and started painting again, concentrating mainly on landscapes as he does today. He received numerous honors during 2010 and 2011 salons and shows throughout Idaho, California, and Arizona. Over the years, Morgan has also been featured in various national publications including Western Art Collector and Southwest Art.
Making this show even more special, Morgan’s father Michael Coleman will also be joining the gallery come April. Also hailing from Utah, Michael decided at an early age he would pursue a career in art, and studied at Brigham Young University. His subjects are inspired from his extensive travels, as well as his childhood spent hunting, fishing, and trapping throughout the Rocky Mountains. Michael quickly became a prominent Southwestern artist when in 1978, at the age of 32, he was given his first retrospective at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. He exhibited at the National Academy of Western Art and at Kennedy Galleries in New York. Although he paints primarily in oil on board or gouache, he won the Prix de West Award at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1999 for his bronze of a moose titled "September," which work has joined the permanent collection of the Hall of Fame. His subject matter often features the Indian encampments, wildlife and hunting that is reminiscent of the magnificent days of the west in the past. His pieces always suggest a balanced harmony between artist, animal, and nature. Michael Coleman's works can be found in the private and public collections of The White House, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, Ian Cumming, John Huntsman, Bill Kerr, President George Bush, Sr., Vice-President Cheney, the Corning Museum, the Anschutz Collection, the National Wildlife Art Museum, the Candaian Embassy, and the National Museum of Dubai, among many more.
Both artists' styles are greatly influenced by many of the key early 19th century masters of the Hudson River School, such as: Henry Farny, Thomas Morgan, and George Inness. Their paintings are rich in detail and muted in tone, true to the remote landscapes they they choose illustrate. Without a doubt, this Father-Son Exhibition will be a memorable one. The show opening and reception for these two esteemed painters will be held April 6, 2012 from 5~8pm. This Friday night art walk will be a lovely way to kick off the spring season – please join us!

New Works ~ Mickey Williams Tuesday, May 01, 2012 - Thursday, May 31, 2012
Reception: Friday May 4th from 5~8pm, in conjunction with the Gallery Row and French Quarter Art Walk
Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art is thrilled to host another stellar show for local artist Mickey Williams, with a new body of works arriving for a May opening and the second French Quarter Art Walk of the year. Williams's paintings will continue to focus on the surrounding barrier islands and Charleston area wetlands, with a plethora of additional paintings he has been working on throughout the cooler months. The new body of works will also include a series of winter beach scenes as well as more electrifying nocturnal landscapes with bonfires and controlled burns done on outlying properties. His soulful Southern landscapes are moody scenes of the lowcountry at dusk and dawn, and have a subtle but trademark-worthy spiritual overtone. Williams has an incredible following and his signature style is the perfect fit for our gallery. Since we brought him on board in November 2011 his work has consistently been a part of the gallery's pulse. His popularity continues to rise and he has spectacularly succeeded in creating his brilliant yet contemplative canvases.
Mickey Williams was born in 1961 in Anchorage, Alaska. At ten his family moved to the Isle of Palms, at a time when most of the island remained undeveloped and unspoiled. His interest in art dates from his childhood and although he won many awards in high school, he earned his college degree from the University of South Carolina in Government and International Studies. Six years after graduating from college, while working in the restaurant business, Williams started painting again and quickly realized that this would be his life's path. Williams is a self-taught artist who learned his craft from studying art in books and in museums. His work is inspired by the ethereal and romantic beauty of the lowcountry that he fell in love with as a child. Today Mickey lives with his wife and three children in Mt. Pleasant.
”I paint the air, the land and the water that surround me. I have always felt a deep emotional and spiritual bond with nature and feel blessed to live and work in an area that is so inspiring to the mind and soul. My landscape paintings are visual interpretations of what I see with my eyes and my heart. I attempt with every painting to draw a parallel connection between nature and personal experience.”
The artist's reception will be held from 5pm until 8pm on Friday, May 4th. Please join us to celebrate Mickey's new body of works and continued success in the gallery and art community as a whole.

Jeff Jamison Friday, June 01, 2012 - Saturday, June 30, 2012
Reception: Friday June 1st from 5~8pm, a Gallery Row Art Walk
Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art will welcome all-star artist Jeff Jamison in June as he returns to Charleston with a new body of city-inspired works. His romantic urban landscapes and bustling restaurant scenes have captured collectors across the country. A Tennessee native, Jamison has consistently been a top-selling artist for the past few years and has continued to provide new and interesting subject matter that continues to make clients swoon. He has a knack for capturing the feeling of a lively city square, or charming cafe during the bustle of the lunch rush. Through his canvases, Jeff is able to reach out to viewers and create a sense of familiarity and fond recollection. His work has enough detail to feel like "you've been there," but is also wonderfully vague enough so the viewer's imagination or memories can fill in the blanks. Jeff has said his goal is to find common ground with the viewer through each piece, and he truly believes that the observer can feel the energy put into a painting. While the subjects of his paintings are often influenced by major hubs like New York and Paris, they are almost always created from memory rather than a photograph.
Jamison's work has garnered immeasurable recognition and has been highlighted in numerous publications, including an impressive feature in the February 2011 Nashville Arts Magazine.

Stapleton Kearns & Scott Moore Wednesday, August 01, 2012 - Friday, August 31, 2012
Reception: Friday August 3rd, a Gallery Row Art Walk
Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art is pleased to host our New England artists, Stapleton Kearns and Scott Moore, during their August 2012 show. The new works will feature vibrant summer scenes spanning the Lowcountry. Both artists travel to Charleston at least once a year for a couple of weeks at a time, spending their days chasing the light that our special area is so well known for and compels artists spend their days chasing the sun to capture that truly perfect moment.
Stapleton Kearns lives in New Hampshire and paints predominantly plein-air style, on-site in the elements no matter the harsh temperatures or dismal weather. He tells people, “If I’m awake, then I’m painting!” He spares nothing in detail or time it takes to complete a perfect painting.
Scott Moore is best known for his unique architectural renderings. His downtown Charleston scenes are eye-catching, with vibrant rooftops scenes that lend extraordinary views of downtown, from the harbor and its striking Ravenel Bridge to familiar streets like Broad, Tradd and Meeting. He also has a knack for capturing rural charm, painting the cottages and dirt roads of the outlying areas around town. Scott hails from Maine and has been professionally painting for over three decades.
Both artists use brilliant color - and while they have very different styles, their individual depictions or the lowcountry always highlight the natural beauty of the area. Kearns and Moore get pack in the plein air painting when they are in town, covering McClellanville to Edisto and everything in between.
We are elated to have them back in Charleston this summer and are eager to see the new masterpieces yet to be created.
The gallery will proudly receive dozens of new paintings with a show opening and reception during the August Gallery Row art walk on Friday the 3rd from 5-8pm.
